Surprise – surprise….advertising spend is increasing on social media.
That probably comes as no surprise whatsoever as advertisers are fast followers chasing people (or eyeballs) where they spend their time, which is certainly on social media these days.
The Realtime Report says the majority of large advertisers will increase their social ad spending in 2012. So if the “big boys” are doing it that means the smaller business should too, right?
Not so fast.
Spending money on so called “Social Ads” can be as disastrous and wasteful as throwing it away on the old media channels like yellow pages, radio and other general “media channels” – aka – advertising nonsense.
Social media allows you to cultivate customers and prospects like no other one-way channel ever could.
Don’t get us wrong – doing paid ads may in fact make sense with some social outlets – much like search engine ads can be highly effective. But a much smaller investment to learn how to use social can pay off better – faster – cheaper and…. here comes the new word to that old phrase – often.
Before you drop money on ads – invest in your social presence. There’s so much that can be done before buying media for selling when you know how to sell socially.
Better – faster – cheaper – often.
