3 Simple Things You Can Do as an Expert Today

When people ask for recommendations, they usually ask “who is the best ___?” because the story we believe is that the ‘best’ person, or the expert, is someone we can trust to solve our problem quickly, efficiently and satisfyingly. 

When people know you as the “Local Expert”, they’re much more likely to do business with you, it’s human nature to want (and trust) the “Best” and everyone loves to make – or get – a great recommendation..

Here are 3 simple things you can do to establish yourself as the Expert and Go-To person in town, no matter what you do or sell.

FAQ’s; Be The Answer Woman

Customers have problems that they need solved and naturally they have questions. What are you asked most often? Answer each FAQ in a paragraph or two. Many people will have similar questions and by answering them you accomplish several things; you give them something valuable (help), you prove your expertise in a way that establishes trust you and you’ve shared what you do in a completely relevant way, so even if I don’t have the same exact question, I’ve come to know you a bit and I’m thinking “she know’s what she’s talking about – she’s good”.

Tell Me About Your Customer Wins

Nothing speaks louder about you than the words of others. Don’t tell me what you can do, tell me what you did do for someone kind of like me, so I can relate. Nothing speaks louder about you than the words of others; if you can capture this as a first person testimonial, great. Another way to get the message across is to tell the story of their success; “Mary came in with this problem, we worked with her to create this solution and now her life was better in this specific way”. You are excited to share this, not because you want to brag about what you did, but because you’re excited about her results. As soon as I listen to a story about your customer, I can step into her shoes and experience what those results could be like, and feel like, for me. Because you’re telling a real story about real people getting real life results, it’s completely credible, much better than a list of claims and promises.

Tell Me Your Story of ‘Why’

I want to know about you, but not from an ad. Tell me WHY you do what you do; the backstory. What beliefs do you have about the difference you make in the world doing this thing you do? What experiences did you have that propelled you into this business? How do the stresses and successes of your clients make you feel? By telling these stories, you let people close enough to begin to make a personal connection; combine that with the excellent work you do and you’re developing a longtime client.

You’re Local, you’re my neighbor. That makes you more trustworthy and more accountable. Once I fully appreciate that, I’m more inclined to pay attention to you and start to know you. Once I see that my friends and other folks around here are happy doing business with you, I realize you can probably solve my problems and I begin to trust you … because you’re the Expert.

It’s simple; the more prospects that get to Know, Like and Trust you, especially as an expert, the more customers you’ll have walking in the door.

Invest a little time and think through these simple expert strategies, start writing it all down, you’ll create some great ‘marketing content’ that you can share online and attract more clients. This can easily become up 3 (or more) blog posts, you have 3 great posts for LinkedIn and Facebook (posts that lend themselves to being shared) and you have 3 scripts for simple videos which go on YouTube (and on LinkedIn and Facebook and Instagram) – using these 3 simple strategies you can create an endless stream of fascinating and useful marketing assets that you’ll post and, unlike a one-time ad, will generate results into the future.

Last tip; don’t forget the end; always end with a call to action. It doesn’t have to be “Buy Now” (probably shouldn’t be) but you should always ask for some sort of action; watch the next video, go here for more info, join our group on Facebook or – “Can we help you solve that problem?
