youtube related videosYou know when a YouTube video ends and you get all those “related video” choices? Sometimes that’s not-so-great if you are using that video for business and it’s posted on your website – because it sometimes shows unrelated videos you’d rather not be associated with – or your competitor’s videos.

I just had a call from an old client who was sending email featuring a YouTube hosted video and having that exact problem.

The solution is easy; First, you always want to embed the video on your website (don’t link to YouTube, that’s silly – you’re just sending your email list off to watch other videos, not browse your site) and you can shut off the “other videos” feature – but it’s hidden.

Here’s How:

  1. Under the video you want to embed on your site, click “Share” > then “Embed” – this generates the string of HTML code for you to copy and paste onto your website page.
  1. Now, click the bar that says “Show More” for some additional options – they make it a little hidden here because YouTube would prefer that people spend more time on YouTube.
  1. Just DE-select the line that says “Show Suggested Videos When the Video Finishes”:

Stop YouTube Suggested Videos
Now when your video ends, it just re-sets to the beginning, showing you (not your competitor) and making it easy for people to continue reading what you have on the page and staying on your site.

All reasons to use more video in your marketing are good ones!

This will allow you to have the presence on YouTube for great search results and maintain control of your brand.
Have fun!
