And we do mean FREE. You can learn those in-demand skills in WordPress and coding without spending a dime.

The only thing you need to do is commit to learning. Make it a habit. You know what a habit is? It’s practice. You have to study and practice every chance you get in order to become proficient at anything. Coding is the same way. You have to practice to get comfortable with it – and once you are comfortable, it will begin to feel intuitive and you will discover that your initial intimidation is replaced by the excitement of taking on new challenges.

Do you want a raise? A new job? Do you need to up your tech skills to help you stand out in sales and marketing? Do you want to own your own business and need an App or a website or both? Coding is a skill each of these scenarios easily requires – some in more complex ways than others – but it’s not unusual to need to know how to create a nice layout for your business stories on your WordPress blog, or know enough HTML and CSS to make your company’s website look good. And nowadays, those are just the basics! 

The good news is that you don’t need extra cash to get started working on upping your tech game for whatever reason. If you have 30 minutes you can get started today. And frankly, why would you put it off?

One warning: if the idea of learning how to code genuinely bores you this might not be the path for you. Coding isn’t always intuitive or easy. You do need to be curious enough to give it a real go. But if you love puzzles, figuring out how pieces fit together and you think learning new languages is intriguing, then you’ll be surprised to find that learning how to code can be fun.

It looks basic but that’s the point. They want you to focus on what you need to learn. HTML and CSS? They’ve got you covered. Javascript? JQuery? Python? Ruby? Yup. All there. It’s interactive learning. You learn the lesson and start writing the code right there on your screen. This is the best way to learn how to code. It’s self-paced and you can pick up right where you left off no matter how long you are gone. It’s fun to use and you don’t need to know coding to get started.

WordPress anyone? This is their specialty. They write posts that are clear and easy to understand. They also have a library of topics you can research and their YouTube channel is chock full of helpful video tutorials. Subscrbe to their email list and you will get their blog posts sent right to your inbox every week. You cannot go wrong with this site if your goal is to learn WordPress.

This is a Web Developers site where they offer self-paced courses that are written with a focus on keeping things simple and straightforward. They make each lesson easy to understand, offering clear examples and giving you an opportunity to try it yourself. Go at your own pace and review lessons as many times as you need. They do offer certifications, for a fee, if that is a goal you are working towards. This is a great site for beginners and professionals alike and you should take some time to explore it.

This is a free site that offers classes in subjects that a lot of folks took in high school, which is why their computer programming courses are geared to the beginner and therefore, fun. What? Learning isn’t supposed to be fun? Really? Huh. We didn’t get the memo on that.

Would you like to take free courses in programming offered by top universities? Yeah. We thought you might find that appealing. A lot of the classes are designed for intermediate to advanced learners but if you dig a little you will find introductory courses that are geared towards beginners. And then there’s the fact that they serve up courses in so many other subjects it kind of makes us scratch our heads and wonder why everyone with an internet connection and a desire to learn isn’t just diving in and taking advantage of the knowledge loaded into this site. It sure beats student loan debt. No. Really. You can trust us on that one.

Yes. Around here we call fondly it YouTube University because it has yielded up surprisingly accurate solutions to difficult tech challenges on multiple occasions. For free! YouTube is an excellent source for videos on all types of tech skills that you might need. It takes some trial and error, but when you find someone whose teaching style fits your learning style, it’s like putting on a bespoke outfit after years of trying to make off-the-rack clothing look good on your body type. Do not overlook the power of shared knowledge on YouTube. 

Obviously, there are many more free resources available online. This is just a starter list to whet your appetite and help you get moving into the big wide world of tech. Stop overthinking it. Commit to yourself. It’s time you start acquiring those tech skills you need to compete in the crazy, ever-evolving world of employment. You don’t have to feel left behind because of money. Not ever again.
