4 Steps to Social Media Success

  • find cool, relevant people
  • give great, valuable content
  • capture their contact information
  • stay in touch so they can buy your stuff
  • You don’t make money with Social Media – you make money by doing business with people who know you, who like and trust you. You engage in Social Media to develop relationships with people so they know like and trust you – only then will they (or should they) buy what you have, what you do or who you are.
  • Use the search tools to find people who are already interested in what you do, you clearly have something in common with them – build on that. Use Google alerts and searches, and also search Facebook and twitter to find people talking about what you do in real time.
  • Provide content, not commercials. You’re passionate about what you do, so share that! Deliver “How To” or “FAQ’s” on you area of expertise. Give, give and then give some more. Frank Kern calls it “moving the free line” – become a trusted resource and people who are potential customers will become your customers – who wouldn’t want to do business with the expert?
  • Create capture page and offer something of high perceived value in exchange for their name and email – you don’t own the Social Media platforms or your space on them, you must make a connection with people and be able to stay in contact with them over the long term to continue to create value and build your networks.

So: Find people, give value, make a connection and stay in touch. They will come to you for help solving their problems if you have done your part correctly.
