Here are three great ways to make LinkedIn, (the social networking site for professionals) work for you and your business:

Create Professional Connections.  Entrepreneurs are using LinkedIn to successfully network with other like-minded individuals and build their professional network.  This is a platform where you can connect one-on-one, promote your business, share their articles or eBooks and videos while also gaining useful insights and information to further their social marketing.  You know who your target audience is and it’s easy to find and connect with them on LinkedIn.  By linking up with your business colleagues (past and present), customers, and new contacts, you create a personal Rolodex and resume online.

Join Groups. You can easily search LinkedIn for relevant Industry groups.  Become involved in groups focused in or around your industry. The key to maximizing the value of a group is participation. Feel free to jump in and answer a question, or better yet, ask a question and get a fresh discussion started. Become part of the conversation. Participants who appreciate someone’s input can view that person’s profile and make a connection with them or vice versa. Groups on LinkedIn encourage conversations with folks who could become important connections. Never overlook the power of a group.

Follow Influencers. Influencers are people with wide social networks who tend to be thought leaders in various industries.  People we often follow for inspiration, motivation, and new ideas. LinkedIn’s Influencer pages allow members to see the recent articles and videos of well-known professionals, as well as introducing people who are up and coming in their fields of expertise. Following thought leaders is a great way to discover fresh approaches to social marketing efforts.  Influencers are often able to spot new trends in niche markets allowing us to take advantage of them early on.

LinkedIn allows small business owners to showcase both their brands and unique talents. When utilized in a focused and consistent manner it can be a goldmine for individuals seeking professional insight, inspiration and new ideas.  LinkedIn is yet another social media platform that will benefit your small business by continuing to build web presence and allow potential customers to learn even more about you.

Next week we will explore LinkedIn Company Pages and how to create a brand presence on the networking site.
