Small Business SatursdayIt’s the first Sunday in November, which means now is the time to prepare for the last Saturday of the month.

What are we talking about?

Small Business Saturday of course.

This promotional day created by American Express Digital SVP Leslie Berland enters its third year on November 24, 2012, the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Black Friday and before Cyber Monday.

So is it worth the bother? Well, if you are an American Express accepting merchant, we think so. Here’s a few reasons to consider participating this year:

1)   You can piggyback on the extensive advertising and promotion American Express will put into this day raising awareness about the overall small business sector. How often do you get to take advantage of a massive national ad campaign designed to support you? Many people will take extra notice when they see you as a participant.

2)   Get free advertising. That’s right, if you sign your business up on the “Shop Small” site,  Amex will let you create a free geo targeted ad that is coordinated with their national campaign.

3)   See social media marketing activities in action. By participating you will get a first hand look at how social media can help you grow your business with some hands on experience using Amex specials, links, case studies and general tips too.

Here’s a good Small Business Saturday checklist from Stephanie Faris that will give you a time line for preparing as well. And be on the look out as we are gathering more tips from experts to help you make the most of the day too. So get more out of this Sunday by getting ready for Saturday – Saturday November 24th that is!
